I decided to treat myself to a new MacBook. My existing 2010 model was beginning to feel its age, despite having the benefits of both maxed-out RAM and an upgrade from a mechanical disk to a modern digital SSD. Software builds were beginning to be noticeably time-consuming, photo processing sluggish and I needed a machine powerful enough to cope with Elite: Dangerous when it makes its way on to the Mac.
I’ve ended up with the latest 15″ Retina MacBook Pro with an amazing specification:
- 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz;
- 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM;
- 512GB PCIe SSD;
- Intel Iris Pro integrated GPU;
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M discrete GPU;
- That gorgeous retina display!
What a machine it is. This thing flies, unfazed by anything I’ve yet thrown at it. I’ve found it to be a seriously impressive bit of kit.
